Its pretty horrific the reality of fires.I live in the Yarra Valley and last Saturday afternoon I watched the sky fill with smoke ..it came over a blackish red colour like night time, the smoke was strong smelling and made me cough badly and still, because there was no warnings, no sirens or updated information on radio or internet etc…. I thought it was ok …
I was told I did the right thing, as the fire was’nt the Melbourne one, like was being told on radio it was 1 kilometer away from me….Weird, but true you are left on your own to fight it, or flee early. I got more accurate information from my daughter who lives in Paris.
I cant even imagine what it was like for the poor people who were caught in the middle of this disaster.
Thankfully, my family, friends and animals are all safe. It must to be changed….people need early warning systems….I think bunkers are a good idea and telephone systems need to be upgraded. People werent even able to ring Emergency 000 last Saturday let alone find out what was going on in their areas.
