Latest news!
I’ve just been featured at Artsy Shark. Thank you! Carolyn Edlund for all your hard work and for doing such a great job promoting artists and getting their work seen.
Featured Artist Jenny Davis
Artsy Shark presents Australian artist Jenny Davis. Her mixed media work uses recycled and reclaimed materials. Enjoy her portfolio and see more about Jenny here.
Jenny Davis is an Australian artist, working from studios in Victoria, Australia and Paris, France, where she sometimes lives. As an artist, she enjoys working in many disciplines including: painting, sculpture, photography, installation, video, collage, recycled design, sound and virtual worlds. Jenny has shown her work in many countries, including Australia, Germany, Spain, France and USA. Her work is in private and public collections across Australia, UK, Europe and the U.S.A.
Starting out primarily as an abstract painter and sculptor, Jenny’s arts practice has evolved and crosses over into many areas and disciplines. Recycling and reusing items in her work is very important. Stuff that usually goes into landfills and gleaned from the streets of Melbourne and Paris, or wherever she travels. Street litter, food packaging, advertising materials, advertising materials and all kind of paper ephemera are collected and saved for this purpose.
“All this wonderful stuff I reclaim and use in my collage and sculpture.”
“My source of creativity is spontaneous. It can mean spending days even weeks in the studio and strange places contemplating and “collecting energy”. Once I focus and sit with that energy it can take off in all areas. I then definitely need to put down a feeling or emotion, with colour, marks, words, assembled objects, or digital images still and moving. Whatever it takes to get it out! I use various techniques, materials and tools to realize my ideas.
The same goes with my photography. It’s spontaneous and unrehearsed. I like to tell strange stories with my photography and will put myself in uncomfortable spaces to achieve this. I have a wonderful space I found in Paris, I call the dungeon. I can spend hours down there waiting for something to take off. “
At the moment, I am fascinated by the narrative we tell ourselves, when placed in unfamiliar situations. Our mind seems to fly into “spontaneous imagination” and not focus in the moment. I want to seize those imaginary stories and create something with it.
I love spaces underground. There’s a life underneath the earth, and people don’t know about it, but it’s very busy and living, I have taken photos of the Eiffel Tower but I go under it, and look at closer fragments. I’m inspired by many things: Creative minds, Science as art, varies art movements and artists, Ernst, Miro, Tapies, Surrealism, Dada, Abstract Expressionists’, Natural history, Psychology, de-construction , Chaos theory, collecting found- objects and street litter, graffiti, street art, books, vintage and antique, travel and more.

“Another Bunch of Dirty Collages” created from found materials I picked up off the streets in Paris.
My little collages are 8×6 inches – 19 x 14 cm.
I dirty up 180gsm.water colour papers with an old dye recipe then use bits and piece Ive collected over the years. My latest series of images I have recycled labels from a bottle of French Champagne we had in Paris last Xmas, lettering from advertising on packaging, found postcards, vintage book pages, vintage wallpapers, fabrics and stamps with paints, pens and inks and acrylic sealers.I find the process of collage is very relaxing .It frees me up and lets me play.
What things do you collect for creating ?

About Collage
A collage (From the French: coller, to glue) is a work of formal art, primarily in the visual arts, made from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new whole.
A collage may include newspaper clippings, ribbons, bits of colored or hand-made papers, portions of other artwork, photographs and other found objects, glued to a piece of paper or canvas. The origins of collage can be traced back hundreds of years, but this technique made a dramatic reappearance in the early 20th century as an art form of novelty.
The term collage derives from the French “coller” meaning “glue”.[1] This term was coined by both Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso in the beginning of the 20th century when collage became a distinctive part of modern art.

“A Bunch of Dirty Drawings”
It’s been refreshing to get back to the drawing & collage after leaving it for a many years.
My little drawings are 8×6 inches – 19 x 14 cm. water colour paints, crayon, graphite on 180gsm water colour paper.
The materials I’m using allow me to work quickly and spontaneously, just the way I like it.
First of all I like to dirty up a stack of water- colour papers with an old dye recipe.
I then leave a pile of papers and materials on a table near my kitchen. When I’m inspired too, I just add another mark or slash of paint to the unfinished drawings as I’m passing .
It’s amazing how the works mount up creating this way

SPIRIT OF THE VALLEY

An abstract feeling ….In this painting I wanted to capture the “Spirit of the Valley” in an abstract way. The colours connect to the mood of Yarra Valley’s lively communities, rich in it’s, various cultures. The arts, food and wine intermingled with the tranquillity and soul of the surrounding landscape
To see all my work please go to my ‘Gallery”
Funny how things seem to workout. Recently I had a fall and broke my arm.
I have been wanting for ages to update my” Gallery” but, always find it too hard to drag myself away from the studio. Since breaking my arm though, I’ve had too slow down and take it easy. Over the past few weeks I have managed to use the computer with my left hand to upload more paintings, drawings and sculpture for you to browse.
I offer all my art at studio prices, eliminating huge gallery and agent fees.
Saving you $100′s…
Please see Buyer Info
If you have any questions or would like to see a high resolution photo of a piece, please contact me at Outlook8studio and I will do my best to help you.
Hope you enjoy !
“Stimulate your senses.Suggestive and powerful abstract art with a spark, to generate new ways of thinking, to move and inspire us. Jenny Davis award winning, Australian Contemporary artist , paint’s what she feels. Bold and stunningly colorful abstract paintings, that reveals the power and brightness of color, through the different effects of form and texture which spring from the canvas.”

What are the signs that you’re an artist? (I’m not telling which ones I identify with, except to say I’ve never dunked a brush in my coffee — well I dont drink coffee
The highlights in your hair are from your palette and not Clairol.
The only piece of new furniture you have in your home is a $2000 easel.
You butter your toast with your fingers, just to feel its texture.
You think about taking a picture to a show.
You go to a show where the pictures dont move
You are over 50 and still have no health insurance.
Your family takes out a life insurance plan on you for less than $5000.
You know what shade of green the lichen on the trees is.
You can’t find a nice outfit for your date because everything has paint smears on.
Your date ends up with paint smears on her/him.
You’re late for the date because you suddenly knew exactly what that detail of your latest painting needed and just had to fix it while it was fresh in your mind.
You chose to buy that new Russian Sable No. 6 Round instead of a Big Mac, a Large Fry, a Milkshake, Desert, and five litres of petrol.
Your favorite home repair store refuses to work with you to repaint your house, because you rename all of their paint swatches and you get upset that they don’t carry the exact nuance of raw umber you had in mind.
You purchase a ton of books, and most are blank inside.
When viewing a sunset, you think in terms of cadmium yellow (light hue), salmon and gold, a tinted teal mixed with gold for the water….
” There are Prussian blue fingerprints on your phone.
You stay awake late at night wondering how to render on canvas the dimly lit shapes and the shadows in your room.
When you go out, you are always stopping and gazing at the world around you.
You travel far to sketch a place of scenic beauty.
You clean your brushes in your coffee.
You carry pencils instead of pens.
You have watercolor swatches on cardboard in your pocket.
You explain your deplorably bad housekeeping by saying, “it’s a work-in-progress..
.” You do judge a book by its cover.
You bought paint instead of food!
You paint more than you talk.

Indie Collective:
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!! Best Wishes for an extraordinary year ahead.
As usual an artist’s work is never done. With so many ideas and projects i want to do over the next couple of years I just hope to have enough energy and money to keep up with it.
A few thoughts came to me recently……
I like the idea of artists diversifying and crossing over into other areas with their work.I like to think the role of an artist is to leave the audience astonished, unsettled, to give something exciting , new and innovative and to experiment and not just think of art in a frame mentality.
Conceiving art as an “experience”, not just viewed at and moved on.
Over the past couple of years, quite unconsciously , my work has been moving in all directions. I thought I was an Abstract painter only, but now, I also delve into sculpture, collage, video, photography, art publishing , design, wearable art, handmade
crafts etc and the lists goes on and on.
So , as an artist, whatever you are doing at the time, that’s your art and labeling yourself as a certain type of artist can be so restricting and may not allow ideas to grow and flourish.
Working this way and keeping an open mind has allowed me as an artist, to discover new ways of self expression and move on to a more deeper level . At the same time, I feel more connected to the world past present and future.
I’m more in tune, alert.
Discovery, is exciting and stimulating for the artist. Helping the artist to progress in their work and learn new ways of looking, seeing ,doing and thinking. This can only enhance your arts practice…….

So, whatever art you do, use your “artspace” for confrontation, clash for the unexpected with a non programed response, it may lead to other things. Experiment and venture into areas where you have no experience and see what happens …..
